CHICAGO — Glanbia Nutritionals, a business unit of Glanbia P.L.C., is introducing CreaBev, a soluble and stable creatine monohydrate ingredient for ready-to-drink and ready-to-mix sports nutrition beverages.
“Creatine has been a widely utilized ingredient for years and there is sufficient consumer knowledge on its benefits of use,” said Mayuresh Bedekar, senior product manager of bioactives for Glanbia Nutritionals. “However, now manufacturers of pre- and post-workout products will have access to a more efficient form of creatine monohydrate that opens up new beverage product formulation possibilities.”
A short-term study conducted by Glanbia Nutritionals showed that 98% of CreaBev’s creatine monohydrate remained present in water after two hours. This compared with 11% of standard creatine monohydrate that was degraded after only 5 minutes in water, according to the company. A long-term study, post-heat treatment, showed that CreaBev remained stable over an extended period. Seventy-per cent of CreaBev’s creatine monohydrate remained after 12 months.
Glanbia said a patent-pending encapsulation technology is what provides CreaBev’s stability.
